Reporting to the General Manager Projects & Engineering, the Electrical/Power Engineer will provide technical expertise and analysis of the operation of the electrical power system, including generation, sub transmission and reticulation network, HV machinery and aux electrical systems design and construction. 

Key Responsibilities: 

  • Ensure integrity of protection and earthing system design
  • Provide recommendations for design and maintenance of electrical equipment such as transformers, switchgear etc.
  • Act as KPHL representative for electrical HV design, equipment selection, sizing, etc, for projects
  • Ownership of KPHL site fault study & protection reports and reviews
  • Ownership of KPHL site load management philosophy reports and reviews
  • Delivers work within approved budget managing any variances in accordance with escalation process.
  • Lead all electrical engineering matters including design changes and development, engineering reviews, construction reviews, acceptance of site changes, compliance with codes and standards.
  • Manage the electrical engineering change register.
  • Oversee the development of electrical engineering project briefs, technical specifications, and designs including drawings and bill-of-quantities.
  • Carry out technical and feasibility studies and draw up blueprints that satisfy technical specifications.
  • Conduct on site investigations and analyze data (maps, reports, tests, drawings and other).

Qualifications/Experiences: 

  • Bachelor’s Degree in Electrical Engineering essential or equivalent.
  • Current Registered Member of IEPNG.
  • High Voltage switching accreditation desirable.
  • Certificate in Workplace Assessment and Training or similar desirable.
  • Proficiency in the use of P6 Primavera, Oracle based Timewriting and Project Cost Accounting, Document Control System Aconex or similar.
  • 15 + years’ experience in leading electrical engineering matters on design and engineering, procurement, construction of major projects.

Technical Skills/Competencies: 

  • Competent with power simulation design software (Digsilent Power Factory/PSCAD).
  • Competent with HV protection systems and studies and power system operations, stability and control.
  • Must be familiar with the production of switching sheets, access, and test permits.
  • Must be familiar with Power Station Systems, Power Distribution Networks, Natural gas Power Systems, Renewable Technology or Diesel Power Systems.
