In a recent press conference Petroleum & Energy Minister Thomas Opa reminded the public that the 2024 PNG Petroleum and Energy Conference later in October will promote investment opportunities in PNG, while also discussing the country’s transition to a greener energy future.
The event is being hosted by Kumul Petroleum Holdings Limited, whose managing director, Wapu Sonk highlighted that there were enormous investment opportunities in these sectors and that Papua New Guinea is ready to welcome investors.
“Resource development is central to economic growth in Papua New Guinea and as the world moves towards to a greener energy future, LNG is an essential transition fuel, both domestically and internationally,” Mr Sonk said.
“While PNG transitions to more sustainable production of energy from the renewable sources that the country is blessed with, we aim to market our LNG in the global market in a more responsible way than in the past.”
Mr Sonk noted the key international speakers at the conference and that he looked forward to the open discussion that will take place.
“We are bringing together key Government officials, regional industry leaders, resource operators, landowners, innovators and service providers to share their views on the future direction of the petroleum and energy sector in the region and the rest of the world.”
“This includes Dr Fereidun Fesharaki, a globally recognised economist in the oil and gas sector, and Daniel Johnston, a renowned expert on fiscal regimes in this sector.”
Mr Sonk pointed out that the event was the only industry specific conference focussing soley on the petroleum and energy sectors, and was being held at the Hilton Hotel in Port Moresby on the 17th and 18th of October.
