Maintaining its practice of organising charity golf events in Port Moresby and Lae, Kumul Petroleum Holdings Limited is once again hosting its annual charity golf event in Lae.
Wapu Sonk, Managing Director of Kumul Petroleum Holdings said, “This year our charity golf event will be held on the greens of the Lae Golf Club, on 1st of March.”
“Funds raised by this event will be used to acquire needed chemotherapy drugs and consumables for use by the National Cancer Unit at the ANGAU Memorial Hospital. Last year the event raised K368,000 for this same purpose and it would be great if we can exceed this total in 2024.”
“Last year the event attracted participation by 54 teams from business houses and other organisations active in Lae, and we expect a similar level of interest this year.”
Mr Sonk outlined that the charity golf event complemented the long-term support that Kumul Petroleum Holdings was already providing to the cancer unit at the ANGAU Memorial Hospital under the company’s 2020 commitment to support its cancer treatment services totalling K15 million over three years.
Mr Sonk noted, “Kumul Petroleum has been active in organising a Cobalt 60 radiation source and brachytherapy equipment for use by the cancer unit. We have been assisted by SYOL International, the radioactive source manufacturer in the USA, who have also donated more than K1 million worth of equipment including two X-Ray machines, ten cancer patient beds and associated hardware.”
“KPHL has also obtained all necessary approvals from the National Institute of Standards & Industrial Technology, which is a prerequisite for IAEA approval for release of the radioactive material, as well as paying the IAEA membership fees for Papua New Guinea.”
Mr Sonk concluded,”We are confident that this years’s event in Lae will raise more necessary funds for treatment drugs and complement the work currently underway to get the ANGAU cancer services unit fully operational.”
