Kumul Petroleum welcomes successful drill Stem test (DST) of Barikewa 3
Papua New Guinea’s National Oil and Gas Company (NOC) Kumul Petroleum Holdings Limited (Kumul Petroleum) today congratulated Oil Search Limited on successfully completing a drill stem test at Barikewa 3 field in Gulf province.
Barikewa 3 is within the Petroleum Retention Licence 9 (PRL 9) operated by Oil Search Limited.
Managing Director of Kumul Petroleum Wapu Sonk thanked Oil Search for delivering an excellent outcome in the drilling of Barikewa 3 well.
“As a participant in the license with 14.9% interest before back in, through KPHL subsidiary NPCP Oil Company is excited about the delineation of the field which makes this field and nearby Kimu fields very attractive for the PNG LNG expansion Project.”
“This outcome is also a positive sign for other projects like the Kikori Energy Hub studies that Kumul Petroleum has done to utilise the gas for Small Scale LNG using Floating LNG technology, Power and further downstream Processing.”
“Kumul Petroleum has 17% in Kimu field and 14.9% in Barikewa before back in rights exercise and KPHL is keen to work with our Partners to drive development of these gas fields together with the P’nyang field and other PNGLNG Project expansion fields.”
Mr Sonk further added, “if you consider cost per of development, Kimu and Barikewa will have the lowest cost and its good for State as well as developers and it is encouraging to see there is enough critical mass in Gas reserves in the Kikori Hub area for cheaper and quicker development. The gas fields are located within the already existing oil and gas infrastructure.”
The drill stem test conducted by Oil Search Limited produced gas from a 25-metre interval of the Toro and Hedinia Sandstones. The well-flowed gas to surface at 35 million standard cubic feet of gas per day (mmscf/d) on a 68/64” choke.
Oil Search Limited reported that onsite analysis of the gas from the drill stem test and earlier wireline sampling confirms a dry gas with approximately 20% nitrogen and very low levels of other impurities, in line with pre-drill expectations.
The main flow period of this test was witnessed on Tuesday, 7 August 2018 by the Governor of Gulf Province, Chris Haiveta, Acting Secretary for the Department of Petroleum, Kepsey Puiye, the Acting Director of the Department of Petroleum, Bob Sari, along with other senior Department officials.
