Kumul Petroleum supports the Commander’s Cup!
An initiative of former commanders of the PNG Defence Force was the idea of bringing all servicemen together once a year to play sport, including games of rugby union. This year, ten teams from PNGDF establishments all over the country will play and compete for the 1st Royal Pacific Island Regiment Commanders Rugby Union Cup.
Kumul Petroleum Holdings Limited is a platinum sponsor for this year’s event, games being held at the Igam Barracks and Sir Ignatius Kilage Stadium in Lae from 12-20 July. As is customary the competition started with a military style opening ceremony.
Wapu Sonk, Managing Director of Kumul Petroleum Holdings said, “KPHL is happy to contribute to making this annual event a success, and fully endorse its theme this year – ‘Duty of Care’.”
“Kumul Petroleum supports a number of sporting codes in this country and our small contribution to this particular PNGDF event is in line with our underlying rationale that sport is an ideal way to bring people together to work and play in a disciplined manner.”
Mr Sonk noted that participation in sport builds unity amongst the general community as well as the members of the Defence Force and commended the organisers for having a ladies team playing in the competition for the first time this year.
Mr Sonk concluded,” Kumul Petroleum, as the national petroleum and energy company, stands ready to support worthy community initiatives from organisations such as the PNGDF.”
