The composition of the Kumul Petroleum Board comprises highly qualified and upstanding Papua New Guinean’s with vast experiences in the private and public sector.
The appointment and removal of the Board of Directors is by the National Executive Council of PNG, in consultation with the relevant sections of the IPBC Act 2002 and the Companies Act, 1997, where applicable.

Mr Sonk has two decades of experience as a Papua New Guinean leader in the oil & gas industry as the industry itself matured from being an oil exporting country to now LNG exporter.
He was appointed Managing Director of the National Petroleum Company of PNG in January 2013.
He has occupied numerous leadership roles in the Petroleum Industry of PNG since beginning his career with Chevron Nuigini Pty Ltd in 1997.
This roles include Director – PNG LNG Project – IPBC (2012), Chairperson of Society of Petroleum Engineers (PNG Section) (2011), Technical Manager, Kumul Petroleum – Managing a Multi Skilled Team of Geologist & Engineers (2010-2011), Drilling & Completions Engineer – Oil Search Head Office – Sydney office, Australia (2007-2009), Night Shift Drilling Rig Operations Supervisor (2006 – 2007) and, Field Coordinator, PNG to QLD Gas Pipeline Project FEED Team – Manage Multinational team (2005).
Mr Sonk is also a member of the International Association of Drilling Contractors (IADC), Society of Petroleum Engineers (Worldwide), and Institute of Engineers PNG.

Mark Sopaing has a long association with the development and running of Landowner Companies.
He is currently Chairman on the Boards of Mineral Resources Lihir (MRL) Capital Limited; MRL Pty Ltd, Maron Limited, Lakonput Properties, MS Holdings, as well as Vice Chairman of Anitua Group of Companies and Director on the Board of Ailia Limited. Mark holds a degree from the University of Technology in Lae.
PhD (University of California, Davis, United States of America) Specialising in Development Economics and Econometrics.
Ila Temu brings to the Board considerable experience in executive management and directorship roles in the Extractive Industry as well as in policy and economic matters of PNG.
He is currently the Country Executive Director of Barrick (Niugini) Ltd, and prior to this he held senior executive roles in Placer Dome both overseas and in PNG, as well as holding senior positions in public organisations including senior lecturer in Economic at the UPNG and as the Director of the National Research Institute. He is also a director of Bank of South Pacific and Kina Petroleum.
Dr Temu acquired his Doctor of Philosophy in Economics from the University of California, his Masters in Agricultural Development Economics from the Australian National University and his Bachelor of Economics from UPNG.

Benedict Yaru has over 20 years of experience in a variety of challenging positions related to the petroleum and mining sectors in both Operational Management and Consultancy roles.
He is the Associate Professor (adjunct), at the Institute of Applied Ecology, University of Canberra, ACT, Australia. Dr Yaru acquired his Doctor of Philosophy in Environmental Biology from the University of Technology Sydney and his Masters in Applied Science in Analytical Environmental Chemistry from the University of Lae

Frank Kramer is a prominent businessman in Papua New Guinea. He is the Chief Executive Officer of Kramer Ausenco, the largest permanently based engineering firm in PNG and the South West Pacific region.
Mr Kramer has a long history of Board experience, including the President of the Institution of Engineers, Chairman of the National Standards Council of PNG; Deputy Chairman of the Investment Corporation of PNG, Director and Foundation Member of the University of PNG Foundation and Director of Kinhill Ltd. Mr Kramer has a Bachelor of Science in Physics from the University of PNG and a Bachelor of Science in Engineering from the University of Guelph in Canada.

Larry Andagali has a wealth of experience with both Landowner relationships and Community participation and investment in the Petroleum & Energy sector in PNG. He is the Chairman of PNG Power and the Managing Director of Transwonderland Limited, a one of PNG’s largest land transport, logistics and technical service companies, which is owned by a consortium of 25 landowners from around the PNG LNG Project fields.
In the past Mr Andagali held several landowner interface management positions including Business and Development Manager for Oil Search, General Manager of National Energy Company, Labour Liaison Advisor for Exxon Mobil, General Manager with Gigira Development Company and Community Affairs Manager for the BP Ltd.
